Rural Capital Area Employment Growth Continues in December

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) economy capped off another great year of positive employment growth in 2018, with more than 1,000 jobs added for the month of December. Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate for the WSRCA was 2.9 percent in December, up slightly from 2.8 percent in November. The 2.9 percent unemployment rate represented 15,574 residents seeking employment.

The workforce area’s unemployment rate remained below both the Texas (3.6 percent)* and national (3.7 percent)* rates.

WSRCA collectively added 1,057 jobs in December 2018. The region’s 3.4 percent annual growth rate represented the addition of 16,928 jobs since December 2017.

Key Points by Industry for WSRCA in the Second Quarter of 2018:

• Leisure and Hospitality has experienced the greatest employment growth with an increase of 6.1 percent.
   o Job gains were also experienced in Natural Resources and Mining (3.8 percent), Construction (3.2 percent) and Professional and Business Services (2.8 percent).
• Information has experienced the greatest positive annual job growth with an increase of 20.1 percent.
   o Significant positive annual job growth was also experienced in Construction (8.9 percent), Manufacturing (6.7 percent) and Leisure and Hospitality (5.3 percent).
