A multinational bio-medical company is moving to San Marcos and bringing some high paying jobs with it.
Grifols, a company that makes medicine from donated blood plasma will soon be opening a plant along I-35 in San Marcos.
Chris Healy, the company's Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, said San Marcos is a good fit for the company.
"Our expansion here will include a testing laboratory as well as a warehousing and additional manufacturing," Healy said.
Grifols will be building a facility in the River Ridge Business Park. The first phase is scheduled to be a 72,000 square foot warehouse. Further expansions are planned for the coming years.
Once completed, 190 people will work at Grifols. Amy Madison, the Economic Development Director for San Marcos, said she is excited about how much the jobs will pay.
"The average wage is $38,571 -- that is $7,000 more than the county average wage is across all industries. This is a tremendous boom for us locally," she said.
For bringing the $75 million facility to Texas, Grifols will be refunded close to $4 million in city and county taxes over the next 10 years.
The company will also receive $500,000 grant from the Governor's Texas Enterprise Fund.
"The various incentives offered by the city and county really drove home to us what a great fit it would be for Grifols to be in San Marcos," Healy said.
"We're looking to continue to seek out bio-medical type companies for this area, because we're ripe for it. We're perfect," Madison said.
