User Guide

This Rural Capital Area Workforce CD was designed to provide an easy-to-use interface for users to access county-level information on the following 9 counties: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, and Williamson. Data is provided for the aggregated 9-county area as well, and when possible for the state of Texas and U.S. for comparison.

This year’s version provides additional information across all categories, with a particular focus on providing more detailed industry and occupational information at the county level. Key additions this year include industry cluster growth trends by county, occupational forecasts by county, key occupations required by the Governor’s clusters, 2008 estimates of demographic data, and demographic heat-maps. See the Index for a complete list of data provided.

The menu system on the left side of the screen allows the user to quickly find information by topic, and then identify specific datapoints for viewing. In addition to viewing the information on the screen, the user is given the option to download multiple formats of the data and save them to your local computer:

PDF: This is a good format for saving ready-to-print pages of the data. Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.

XLS: This is a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel 2003 format. Allows the user to see the underlying data, make adjustments to the table formats, or cut and paste data into other spreadsheets for further analysis.

PNG: This is a standard graphics file format, which can be saved to your computer, and later inserted into Word documents or Powerpoint documents.

By providing multiple formats of the data, we intend to give the user the full ability to insert the data into your own documents, such as reports, grant proposals, or newsletters, without having to recreate or reformat the charts/tables.

In addition to downloading the files, the user has the option to “right-click” on a graphic seen on the screen to copy and paste the graphic to another program.

Links to websites are provided if the user seeks additional information on a topic. Also, check the RCAWDB website for updates to this CD.
